Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use this site, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, or magnification. This page says what we have done, what we know is still imperfect, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.

Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA on every page of excelsiorapplied.com.

What we have done

  • Every page has one main heading, a logical heading order, and a skip link to the main content.
  • Everything on the site works with a keyboard alone, and the element with focus is always visible.
  • Images have text alternatives, or they are marked as decorative so that screen readers skip them.
  • Text keeps a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 against its background, including on the dark sections.
  • Text can be resized and the page can be zoomed. Nothing blocks pinch zoom on phones.
  • There is no animation, nothing plays automatically, and smooth scrolling stops when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • The site uses plain HTML and CSS with a small script that keeps section addresses in sync. Every page works with JavaScript turned off.
  • There are no forms, no pop-ups, no third-party widgets, and no tracking scripts.

What we know is not perfect

  • We have not yet commissioned an independent audit, and we have not tested the site with every screen reader. We check it ourselves against the guidelines and with keyboard-only use.
  • The publication citations follow a journal format with long reference strings that screen readers read in full.
  • Links to LinkedIn, to the DOI resolver, and to your email program lead to sites and software we do not control.

Tell us if something does not work

If any part of this site is hard to use, write to info@excelsiorapplied.com and tell us the page and what happened. We reply within two business days, we fix what we can, and we will give you the information in another form in the meantime if you need it.

Technical details

This site is built with HTML and CSS, with a small amount of JavaScript. It is designed to work with current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, and with the screen readers and magnifiers built into Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
