Excelsior Applied Systems LLC is an engineering company in Troy, New York. OSIRIS, our first system, collects soil cores from an unmanned ground vehicle and records the location, depth, and time of every sample with no operator at the sampling point. We are preparing federal research proposals, and we welcome interest from research stations, laboratories, and field sites that would evaluate the system.
We build ground robots that collect physical soil cores at a repeatable depth, seal each core, and record its location, depth, and time. We design the equipment for mud, vibration, and long days in real fields.
Excelsior Applied Systems LLC is a member of the Incubated Maker Program at Tech Valley Center of Gravity in Troy, New York. The program gives us access to prototyping and fabrication shops for building and testing hardware.
We fill the small business role that STTR and SBIR programs require. We welcome guidance from program officers, and we welcome interest from organizations that would host field trials or evaluate the system.
Manual soil sampling is slow and inconsistent, and it leaves most of a field unsampled. OSIRIS mounts on an unmanned ground vehicle. The system cores at a controlled depth, exchanges and stores each core in an indexed onboard carousel, and links every sample to its location, depth, and time. No operator handles samples between points.
We designed the system for research stations, soil testing laboratories, and environmental sampling programs that need dense, traceable physical cores and a clear chain of custody.

Excelsior Applied Systems LLC develops autonomous equipment for agricultural and environmental research, and OSIRIS is our first system. We are carrying it from a proof of concept to equipment that research programs and laboratories can operate in the field.
Our team combines field robotics research with industrial automation practice. We have built an uncrewed sediment sampling system, developed mobile robot control and path planning for environmental monitoring, and integrated robots, programmable logic controllers, motion control, and industrial networks on production floors that run at high volume. The research work tells us what a sampling robot must do in the field, and the industrial work tells us how to build one that keeps running through a season outdoors.
We would like to hear from research stations, laboratories, and program officers with an interest in autonomous soil sampling.
